The Pekoe Trail: Sri Lanka on Foot

Day by Day

8 Nights / 9 Days

1. Day 1

   Arrival - Kandy

   Transfer from the airport directly to Kandy (approximately 3.5 hours). Visit the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic in the afternoon. Overnight in Kandy.

2. Day 2

   Pekoe Trail: Kandy Tea Country

   A guided day hike along an early stage of the Pekoe Trail through the Hantana hills above Kandy - tea estates, old colonial-era factories, and the working life of tea pickers, with luggage transferred ahead. Overnight in Kandy.

3. Day 3

   Pekoe Trail: Into the Highlands

   A further guided stage, climbing higher into tea country, passing the Loolkandura Estate - Sri Lanka's first commercial tea plantation, planted in the 1860s. Overnight at a tea country lodge en route.

4. Day 4

   Pekoe Trail: Ramboda to the High Country

   A third guided stage, following ridgelines and waterfalls toward the higher hill country. Overnight at a tea country lodge.

5. Day 5

   Pekoe Trail: Arrival into Nuwara Eliya

   The final guided stage into Nuwara Eliya, through the last stretch of tea estates before the town itself. Overnight in Nuwara Eliya.

6. Day 6

   Horton Plains - World's End

   A rest day from the trail with an early walk across Horton Plains to World's End. Overnight in Nuwara Eliya.

7. Day 7

   Nuwara Eliya - Ella

   Scenic train from Nanu Oya to Ella. Visit the Nine Arch Bridge on arrival. Overnight in Ella.

8. Day 8

   Ella Hiking Day

   A final hiking day - the shorter Little Adam's Peak walk or the longer full-day Ella Rock hike. Overnight in Ella.

9. Day 9

   Departure

   Transfer to Bandaranaike International Airport (approximately 5.5-6 hours) - a full travel day, so an evening flight is recommended.
